Know the dimensions of the bathroom:
Small, medium or large bathroom, you tell us!
With an average of 15 to 30 minutes a day spent in the bathroom, we might think there is no point in dwell on the configuration of the room and down to the smallest detail. Well no ! 🙅🏽♀️
Although we do not spend our day there, the bathroom is the room that will allow you to start the day well. So it would be a shame to start the day on the wrong foot because your bathroom is poorly laid out or lacks storage.
What size for a bathroom?
Habitually, the standard size of a bathroom is estimated at around 5m². However, it can be larger or smaller, depending on the size of your home. Thus, in some apartments, for example, it is possible to have a small bathroom of 4m² or less. Conversely, in larger apartments or in a house, you may have a room of 7m² or more. 🧼
Nevertheless, it is very easy and accessible to arrange a bathroom, regardless of its size.
Define spaces:
To best define and delimit spaces, nothing better than take the dimensions of the room and plot them on a map. Thus, it will allow you to better view available space but above all the way in which you can arrange the room so that it is functional and that it lacks nothing! 📏
Choose the right furniture to fit out a bathroom:
Rather shower or bath?
If you prefer the bathtub to the shower, reassure: it is quite possible to put a bathtub even in a small bathroom. Indeed, as for the shower, there are bathtubs of several sizes and shapes allowing them to be adapted as well as possible to the available space. 🛀🏽
Be careful though, if your room is really very small, we advise you to opt for a shower cubicle in order to gain some space.
Info Ripaton: For the bath, it is recommended to leave about 80 cm around the bath to allow easy access.
Conversely, if you wish to opt for a shower, the standard dimensions of a shower tray is 90x90 cm. However, depending on the dimensions of the room, you can choose it larger (100 x 80cm or 100 x 100cm) or narrower (70×70 or 70x80cm). 🚿
In addition, as for the bathtub, there is different shower styles which will allow you to choose it perfectly suited to the room: walk-in shower, raised shower tray, extra-flat shower tray, etc.
Toilet :
If you want to install WC in the bathroom, care should be taken to leave a space 80 cm wide and 130 cm long about. The length includes both the size of the toilet but also the space needed to circulate. 🐾
Info RIPATON: To give the impression of having more space than there really is, opt for wall-hung toilets. This option will give the impression of space due to the fact that the toilet is not anchored in the ground.
What size sink should I choose?
Last essential element in a bathroom: the sink. In a small bathroom, we will favor a pedestal sink because more compact than a washbasin.
Indeed, while the dimensions of a standard washbasin cabinet are generally between 50 and 90 cm for the width and 50 and 80 cm for the depth; the dimensions for a simple washbasin are 60 cm maximum for the width and 55 cm (maximum) for the depth. 📏
However, if your bathroom allows it, be aware that the trend is for washbasin furniture (single or double).

Indeed, on the ground you can opt for themust-have solid wood parquet which will warm the room in the snap of a finger.
Be careful, however, to choose a parquet floor in a wood naturally resistant to water and humidity such as bamboo, teak or any other exotic wood. 🎍

In addition, waxed concrete adapts to all your desires since it is available in many colors : enough to let your creativity speak!
Finally, if you want to start with the essential tiling, choose porcelain stoneware. Perceived as the chameleon of the coating, this material has the particularity of resisting water, shocks, wear and stains. Moreover, he is able toimitate all types of materials (wood, metal, concrete, wallpaper, etc.): hence its nickname of chameleon. 😜
The walls :
Say goodbye to white walls and hello to color! Bring charm and style to your bathroom by choosing quality and very trendy materials. So, if you like originality, opt for walls covered with patterned or plain colored earthenware. 🎨
If you want a modern, refined and rather sober bathroom, opt for waxed concrete on the walls (it's even better if you also have some on the floor). Its textured coating will give a unique look to the room and can even be used on the shower side!
Finally, if you like natural materials, you can choose to cover your walls (or certain sections of walls) with natural stones. With a solid wood parquet floor, there is no doubt that the desired 100% raw and natural finish will be visible from the doorstep. 🪨
The furniture :
You are on the right track, all you have to do is choose the furniture before you start fitting out the bathroom. But one question comes to mind: what materials to choose for furniture ?
Good news, as for the floor or the walls, the choice of furniture is diverse and varied. Lacquered, in solid wood or made to measure with a solid wood top and steel feet : you will have the possibility to choose it adapted to the style of the bathroom but also to the available space.
For example, in a small bathroom, opt for a suspended washbasin cabinet in light solid wood or in a lacquered finish (also clear) to give an impression of height. In addition, light tones will make it possible to enlarge the room and make it brighter.
Also, if you are a DIY addict (or not), you can also choose to make your own work plan bathroom sink with a solid wood top on which you will fix the washbasin(s). For the feet, add steel legs which will bring solidity, durability and robustness to your furniture. 🔨

How to decorate a bathroom?
Ah decoration, it's a bit the final touch to the layout of a room! And although we only spend an average of 30 minutes a day in the bathroom, this one too deserves a few touches of color and decoration. So, here are useful accessories and elements to choose with taste and originality to adopt them in a bathroom. 🏮
The mirror :
In this room of the house, whether small or not, there are certain things that we like to find. Indeed, how to prepare in the best way in the morning without looking in the mirror ? Yes, the mirror is theessential accessory in a bathroom. In addition to its practical side, it can give an effect of size to the room if you choose it large enough. 🪞
For the style, again, it's up to you to choose the mirror that will go best with the rest of the room.
Hooks and towel racks:
Needless to say, nobody likes to dry themselves off with a damp (or even wet) towel. So to avoid this, we bet on pegs and a towel holder to dry it all out. For convenience, place a coat hook near the sink; this will allow you to wipe your hands quickly and without getting water everywhere! 💦
For the other hooks, you can fix them to the wall, if their style matches the decor of the room or choose to hang them behind the door for more discretion.
Storage:
Vanity unit, wall shelves, baskets and laundry basket, column, floor shelf: to choose them you just have to answer three questions : how much space is available? What do I have to store? On the aesthetic side: is it better to leave them visible and put them on a shelf or to "hide" them in a piece of furniture (with doors)? 🏺
Lighting:
And there was light ! For lighting, we put on a light close to that of the sun for more natural lighting (which can be useful for getting ready without feeling like you're in a hospital). ☀️
Then for the style of lighting to adopt, we advise you to use ceiling lights ou sconces on the walls and not table lamps so as not to clutter the floor (especially in small bathrooms). In addition, avoid suspensions which could give the impression of reducing the space.
Conversely, opt for ceiling lights or recessed LED lighting in the ceiling or around the mirror that will make you look up. This upward movement will thus give an effect of grandeur. 🔆
